Blanca is a dairy complex in the Pyrenees, which includes 13 buildings comprising animal facilities, research labs, and an education center.

The Agrigento temple area teaches us a lesson: the relationship between landscape and sacred architecture. The building or series of buildings connected to a mountain were a classical motto both in the Greek culture and in the Chinese tradition. A built abstraction is rooted somehow into nature.

As a culture temple, the new Blanca from the Pyrenees Green Unit was placed under a pre-existent shed. Defining a Propylaea, an X-shaped platform floats above the field, giving a new significance to the place.

The new concrete platform embeds different pre-fab concrete elements, characterizing different areas. These elements also provide an infrastructure to eventual outdoor activities.

Under the shelter, a layout of four independent pavilions is set in a gammadion shape around a covered piazza. A different activity, reception, aula or auditorium is housed by each independent concrete-block built element. The spaces in between boxes are meaningfully conceived as extension spaces of the interior uses.

The materiality of the pavilions contrasts with the light iron structure of the roof. The concrete-block piece modules the simple massive volumes. The austerity of the grey elements is qualified by the precision in the fabric and the detailing of plinths and joints.

Moreover, the use of oak wood in the carpentry elements and the concrete polished interior floors define a warm inner atmosphere. Light changes colours when reflected by the doorjambs. The abstract geometry of the windows crosses the walls, sometimes blinded as in Michelangelo’s works.

Crossing through the artificial pavilions, our sight seeks nature. Once outside, walking out of the platform, the visitor returns to the forest and the mountain.
